Centre News Update – November 2016

As we approach the end of another busy year, everyone at the Edlington Hilltop Centre would like to wish all of our centre users and supporters all the best for Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of those who came along to support the combined cadets’ forces on 13th November for the Remembrance Day Parade organised this year in partnership with Edlington Town Council, Edlington Youth Direction and Edlington Hilltop Centre.

The community turned out on mass to support the young people of the cadets’ forces this year and it certainly was a day to remember.

Community Health Project & the Martinwells Centre Patient Participation Group

Our Community Health Champions have been helping local residents who are patients at the Edlington GP Practice and the Nayar GP Practice with accessing local support networks and self-help services this month.

FLU Jabs:  It’s that time of year again and we would encourage you to get booked in early to avoid the winter rush, also young children can also be vaccinated with a simple nasal spray.  Just Call Dr Nayar’s Surgery on 01709 444044 or Edlington Practice on 01709 444004.

Missed Appointments:  Don’t forget to give at least 48 hours’ notice if you can should you not be able to make your appointment so that another patient can be given the opportunity to see the Doctor/Nurse.

Bowel Screening Service:  Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK. If it’s detected at an early stage, before symptoms appear, it’s easier to treat and there’s a better chance of surviving it.

People within our community receive a discreet envelope to be able to take the test in the privacy of their own homes, but very few people actually take the time to send them back.  We would urge anyone who receives the test pack to send them back or to speak to their GP practice if there are any concerns.

Mammograms:  About one in eight women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There’s a good chance of recovery if it’s detected in its early stages.  The screening uses an X-ray test called a mammogram that can spot cancers when they are too small to see or feel.

Again many female residents in our community opt not to take this free test and again we would urge anyone who receives a mammogram letter to speak to their GP practice if there are any concerns.

Call Dr Nayar’s Surgery on 01709 444044 or Edlington Practice on 01709 444004 for more information today.

Social Prescribing: Working with a range of third sector organisations all our patients can be given onward referrals for free services.  Get in touch in Surgery or call 01709 863268 to access these free services.

Become a Member of our Panel:  Pick up a membership form from your practice or the Hilltop Centre today.

Contact Your Panel:  Please feel free to contact Robert Reid (Chair), Pam Chambers (Vice Chair) or Leigh Calladine (Secretary) on 01709 863268 to discuss the panel or your experiences at the practices.
