The University of Sheffield is pleased to invite you and guests to attend the Mature Learners Open House event.
Going to university is a big decision and there is lots to consider. The University of Sheffield recognise that making this decision as an adult is very different to making it as an 18 year old. Rediscover Your Potential is an event designed to provide you with information about going to university as an adult.
There will be sessions and activities delivered by key speakers from the University including academic staff, alumni and current mature students. Careers advisors will be present to deliver talks, answer any questions you might have and you’ll have the opportunity to book individual careers appointments upon your arrival. Departments from across the University will also be on hand to showcase their degree courses available to you, some of which will provide you with a taster.
Your previous qualifications and work experience are not barriers to becoming a learner again. You may want a change in career, to further your career prospects or simply study something of interest. Whatever the reason, you are welcome to join us at this free drop-in event.
We have new full and part time degrees available for 2015 entry including degrees with a foundation year. You are welcome to bring friends and family with you. Please book your places here.
We would like to extend a very special invitation for all to attend Doncaster Minster on 22nd November, which will be the venue for an amazing Christmas concert featuring Sir Thomas Wharton Community College Choir and Bramley Brass Band.
This will be held on Saturday 22 November 2014 starting at 7pm. Tickets are available from the College Shop or the Edlington Hilltop Centre for just £5 (adults) and £3 (children).
The concert will launch the appeal for the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust to raise £500,000 to purchase a special 3D Cancer Imaging Scanner, to be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The scanner is an amazing piece of technology that can detect the very smallest particles of cancer, and will allow patients to be treated here in Doncaster, rather than them having to travel back and forth to Weston Park in Sheffield.
The launch of the appeal will see a special Christmas CD recorded at Higher Rhythm earlier in the year, featuring our very own award winning Community Choir. The CD will be available to buy on the night (and afterwards!) for £5 each.
Here is a taster of the song’s from the CD for you to listen to with the compliments of the College and the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust. If you would like to purchase a CD please contact us on 01709 864100.
I am sure you will agree that this will be a very special event, and we would very much hope you are all able to come along and join us to support the appeal, the pupils, staff and members of the Bramley Brass Band. You are sure to have a magical night.
